Dear Ms. Schreier:

I have written the IRS with a question. The IRS has labelled me an "illegal tax protester" and has threatened me as a result. It has also said that it will not answer "legal" questions.

Therefore I decided to ask a person who is charged with prosecuting violations of federal law just what the law is, so I can be sure I am in compliance.

My question is:
For what tax(es) does the the IRS, or any agency of the federal government, allege I am liable? Please site the code number(s) and section(s). (I am self-employed with a 100% domestic business, and I am a natural-born citizen of the State of South Dakota.)

I appreciate your attention to my query.

Very truly yours,
R J Newland

Dear Mr. Newland:

I received your letter dated March 17, 1998, inquiring about what taxes the federal government claims you owe. As a self-employed individual, you are responsible for completing your tax return in compliance with the Internal Revenue Code and for reporting all income received by you during the calendar year. If you are not able to complete your tax return, you should consult an accountant for advice.

Very truly yours,
(s)
